Laboratory Services / Instructions

Listed below you will find helpful information regarding our lab's services, hours, and guideline each patient should follow to help ensure conclusive results.

Some laboratory tests require patients to limit food intake to water-only for a period of time. This is called fasting. Please read "Fasting Instructions" below.

Fasting Instructions:
Nothing to eat OR drink, except water.

This means you CANNOT have:

diet soda or soda
coffee or decaf coffee
candy, mints or gum

Medications should be taken as usual unless they are taken with food or milk or if your doctor says otherwise.

How long to Fast: (before test) If testing for Lipids / Cholesterol... 12 hours*
If testing for Blood Sugar... 8-12 hours*

*NOTE: Fasting longer than 14 hours can cause an error in your lipid (cholesterol, triglycerides) results.

For drug levels (e.g. Digoxin, Dilantin, Tegretol, Theophylline, Quinidine, Norpace) it is recommended that these levels be drawn prior to the next dose for therapeutic monitoring.

Lab Hours:
Monday - Friday
7:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m.

Early appointments are reserved for fasting patients only.

Results are usually reported to you via mail, or a phone call from your physician or nurse. If you have not heard from your physician or nurse within 10 days please contact our office and ask for your nurse to assist you in getting a report on your tests.
